Peach Pie And The Book Of Esther

14 “For if you keep silent at this time, relief and deliverance will rise for the Jews from another place, but you and your fathers house will perish. And who knows whether you have not come to the kingdom for such a time as this?”

Esther 4:14

The book of Esther may very well be one of the most talked about books in the bible and for good reason. Though it is far from being one of the longest book, its’ truths ring as loud as any.

As a short summary of the book of Esther, Queen Vashti disobeys King Ahasuerus causing him to go in search of another wife of whom Esther, the niece of Mordecai, is chosen. Hiding her true identity for many years Esther gets faced with a choice to either save her people, the Jews, or disobey the King. Lucky for her she finds the Kings favor, saves her people, and frees her uncle Mordecai from the wrath of (evil) Haman who is hanged on the same gallows he had built specifically for Mordecai—who said God doesn’t have a sense of irony?

Moral of the story, Esther didn’t believe she had the power or purpose to save her people, but God had already written her destiny. Sometimes the situations we face in life don’t make sense and it’s almost like baking a pie. It’s a weird analogy, but hang with me now.

God is like the ultimate baker, He holds all the ingredients and knows all the secrets to making the best pie–aka your life. Most of the time we can’t see the full picture. Instead we focus on the raw eggs and flour, which to us seem to only make an icky mess. But God doesn’t see what we see, He sees the whole picture. He takes all of our bits and pieces and makes something beautiful.

Just like Esther God knows our future long before we do. He sets in motion everything we can’t see. We are like dough in His hands, being stretched and kneaded for a glorious purpose. We might not have the chance to save an entire people like Esther, but whatever our destines are we can be sure that all of it is for the glory of God.

God is making a perfect pie out of our messy ingredients. We might see flaws, fear, and failure, but God sees the bigger picture. Don’t give up hope on God because He hasn’t forgotten about you. He’s simply taking His time to make the prettiest pie of all.
